Bandung, Telkom University – Managing waste is one of the greatest challenge for people in Indonesia. It is far from being effective and efficient. Because, according to research by Sustainable Waste Indonesia (SWI), 24% of waste in Indonesia is not managed yet. While the total number of waste in Indonesia is predicted to rise in the future. Those waste waste dominated by non-organic waste, mostly plastics. Therefore, to achieve green and sustainable living in Indonesia, every institution and individual must increase their effort in managing waste.

Telkom University, being one of the largest higher education institution, were focusing its effort towards environment care by various “green” program. The programs divided into several aspects, such as Setting & Infrastructure, Waste Management, Water Management, Transportation, Energy, and Education. One of the activities in Education Program is the research and social education of waste processing, pioneered by School of Industrial Engineering.

Telkom University had starting to manage their waste to be more eco-friendly. This shown by the effort of recycling waste into various use-able products, such as organic compost, bio-gas, and also fish food. The process of waste management carefully maintained by institution, under the supervision of Task Force Green Campus Tel-U.

On Tuesday, August 16th 2018, Telkom University conducted seminar on waste processing management. The participant were delegates from neighboring village of Telkom University, such as Sukapura, Citeureup, and many others. Vice Rector for Research and Student Affair, Dr. M. Yahya Arwiyah, SH., MH., inaugurated the seminar, which also attended by Director of PPM, Mr. Palti Sitorus, and Dean of Industrial Engineering School, Madam Dida Diah D. Mr. Rosyad, lecturer and researcher from School of Industrian Engineering, acting as the speaker during the seminar session. In the afternoon, after the seminar, participant were get involved in compost and discussion session. Hopefully, with this seminar, people around Telkom University can practice the knowledge of waste processing in their daily life and spreading it to others.
