BANDUNG, Telkom University – The biggest problem in the world today that impacts the sustainability of the surrounding environment is the problem of waste, water and food waste, in realizing the Sustainable Goals to make the environment beautiful in the future, Universitas Indonesia Green Metric (UIGM) held a webinar aimed at waste treatment and management.

Webinar organized by campus waste solutions team (Solikam) and Telkom University entitled “Campus Waste Management with ICT (Information and Communication Technology) Support Theme, Waste Processing and Final Management.” This took place online through ZOOM and was broadcast on Telkom University’s youtube channel, Thursday (8/4).

Solikam team itself is a team formed by UIGM to discuss and produce and provide input for universities, and the surrounding community for the benefit of better waste management.

Consisting of six universities in Indonesia namely Telkom University (Tel-U), Semarang State University (UNNES), Diponegoro University (UNDIP), Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) Syiah Kuala University (USK), and Patimura University.

Chairman of Team Solikam who is also Vice Rector II for Resources of Telkom University, Dr. Rina D Pasaribu said, the formation of this team is not to generate new thoughts about the processing and management of waste in campus and society.

“More broadly, we hope that with the collaboration that is established today not only nationally but internationally we want to jointly make the earth where we live even better for the survival of future generations.” He said.

Uigm Chairman Prof. Riri fitri Sari said in this event not only followed by universities that are members of the Solikam team, but also followed by all universities but also followed by teachers and students from high school / K in Indonesia.

“Through this event we want to spread the spirit of maintaining the environment not only for universities but starting from high school students , because from our children in the future can make bangs aini better and make the golden generation for Indonesia.” Details.

Telkom University Rector Prof. Adiwijaya said that the environment is a shared responsibility, by preserving the current environment will provide a good legacy for future generations.

“Through this event we can jointly share knowledge not only for the campus where we serve today, but more broadly to provide the best for the Indonesian nation, because to make the environment better is not enough from one party but through collaboration, so that we can provide a comfortable environment for future generations.” He said.

In this webinar filled by three speakers including Angga Rusdinar., Ph.D. (Director of Research and Community Service, Telkom University), Arseto Yekti Bagastyo., Ph.D (Kalab Processing Solid Waste and Waste B3, Dept TL, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember), and Dr. Edi Munawar (Assistant Professor of Chemical Engineering Department, Syiah Kuala University). As well as guided by moderator Dr. A. Netty Siahaya (Uigm Campus Waste Solutions Research Coordinator, Patimura University).

Angga who is also the Coordinator of Abdimas (Community Service) Team Solikam UIGM conveyed what has been applied at Telkom University in conducting waste treatment and management, and it is expected that this program can also be applied in all universities in Indonesia.

As a university with more than 30 thousand students, Telkom University produces quite a lot of waste, Angga explained that previously the waste was sent out and became a burden on the government.

“From these problems we have implemented the I-Want (Integrated Waste Management System) program where currently we have done waste processing ourselves on campus so that waste processing can produce products that can benefit not only the academic community but also the community.” Details.

As a campus that excels in the field of ICT, Telkom University has produced 2 applications that can be used by the community, Angga explained that there are currently 2 applications that have been used by the community, namely smash (Online Waste Management System) and Goni-Goni applications.

“Smash has been connected with more than 11 thousand garbage banks and more than 450 thousand customers throughout Indonesia, where this application will help its customers in sorting waste to facilitate the processing process, similar to smash, burlap applications also have the same function but in this application has an additional function in the form of worm cultivation in overcoming organic waste.” Details.

In the process of I-Want, Angga added, the garbage in Telkom university is next after being sorted through smash and burlap applications, waste is separated both organic and anorganic to facilitate the processing process.

“Furthermore, our waste is processed into various products in the form of compost, bricks where the manufacture of bricks is a mixture of ash burning leaves, making fancy paper and making merchandise from the results of plastic burning in the form of plastic crafts and others.” He said.
